Matthew 14:29“Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. Matthew 14:31Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” After Peter asked, Jesus told Peter to walk to Him, “on the water.”Peter did fine, being […]Can I really “ Walk on water?” — thotsfromgeorge
Think for a moment, if Christ Himself appeared to us. Directly in front of us and told us to walk forward. I am an absolute believer in Christ, have seen and witnessed many miracles, yet even having unwavering faith in Christ does not prevent doubt and fear from entering our minds.
Even if Christ was standing ten feet before me, and He said walk forward. If I’m out in the sea….and I have to place my feet off of the edge of the boat, THE ONLY WAY I CAN BEGIN TO DO THIS- IS BY LOOKING RIGHT INTO THE EYES OF CHRIST AND KEEPING MY EYES ON HIM. If I even for a split second look to the left, to the right, down, or anywhere else..just like a man tight-roping at a high altitude ‘DONT LOOK DOWN!!’ if I look anywhere else I WILL SINK. This is not some metaphor, this is reality.
And here is the thing. That FEAR isn’t going to go away. It’s just learning how to ‘ see through it’ to see through any obstacle, enemy, problem, SEEING RIGHT THROUGH IT BY KEEPING OUR EYES FIXATED ON CHRIST.
Peter believed and he sank, I believed and sank so many times. We all sink the moment we take our eyes off of Christ.
Then What Is The Issue
We believe it is not possible to KEEP OUR EYES ON CHRIST, how the hell am I supposed to work, live, have fun, and go out? Isn’t it unrealistic for someone to expect me to keep my eyes on them? If I do that, I’ll trip over and fall flat on my face!
The issue is- We do not want to keep our eyes on Christ because we still want to keep our eyes on the things that give us pleasure. The Pleasures Of The World. We instinctively understand that God and these pleasures do NOT mix. So every single one of us comes up with reason after reason, a never ending list of reasons to talk ourselves out of KEEPING OUR EYES ON CHRIST.
We don’t even really give this part much thought, it happens so quickly. Our eyes INSTANTLY SEE THE DISPARITY AND DECIDE FOR US- as we push aside the Animal cracker guy so we can get the to the COTTON CANDY!!
The issue is we do not want to keep our eyes on Christ, we would rather drown while enjoying the cotton candy. Only when we are at our last breath, then we let go of the candy and cry out to God.
We cannot KEEP OUR EYES ON CHRIST while serving ourselves. This presents a BIG DILEMMA. I can’t keeping watching porn, while keeping my eyes on Christ. I can’t continue spending and spending and spending while I see all these people going without while keeping my eyes on Christ. Another huge dilemma is that serving Christ means we will have to put our phones down for more than ten minutes. Pretty soon, we will be baptizing people through web services. We want to believe in Christ, without seeing or realizing any of the responsibilities that comes with Believing In Christ. We want to believe in Christ, without having to serve Christ.
