My Listening Woes
I have a dog who irritates the hell out of me. He refuses to listen. Every chance he gets he shoots out the front door. Havoc always ensues. So far we have experienced: fiery confrontations with one neighbor, heated arguments with each other over whose fault it was, the cops being called out, 2 automobile-dog collisions, and 1 hit and run.
To make matters worse, my girlfriend doesn’t listen either. Oh, she hears exceptionally well, it’s just that she has more confidence in her way of doing things than mine. There is absolutely no way I can depend on her for carrying out a specific task in a certain way. That is if I ask her to carry out the task a particular way. Forget about it! She will carry it out and get it done, but HER WAY. To suit what SHE thinks works best.
“What a nightmare!”
“Dam dog!”
“Dam woman!”
“Why can’t they just listen!!! I’m sick of this shit!”
The easiest, quickest (definitely not the most cost effective) way to make my problems disappear is to make them disappear.
“Hell, I’ll just kick them both out!”
But then Almighty God STEPS IN, and reminds me–
WHAT ABOUT YOU?
“You don’t listen to me, and yet you expect those around you to listen to you?”
God, I love you for having this priceless quality about you- REFLECTIVE TRUTH– that slaps me right in the face, time and time again. You keep me honest, You keep me straight. I love this about you, Lord.
It is quick and easy to choose ‘our way of doing things’. Heck, it hardly requires any sacrifice at all. It is an ‘all about me World’ where I am king and everyone else serves me.
How many things am I currently ignoring God about?
How many things am I currently indirectly telling God- without actually telling God- ‘I will get around to it later?‘
How many things am I pretending I didn’t hear God say?
If you are like me, a lot. I don’t even want to make a list and number them. That way I can more easily ignore them and continue on as is- bickering, complaining, cursing, and wondering why the hell everyone around me doesn’t listen.
Bottom Line
If you are NOT listening to God, don’t expect others to listen to you.
Oh there will always be those who will listen to you, but they will always be other fools on the same level as you. It will never be the ones ‘who you wish would listen to you’. The ones you seek ‘approval from the most’. …….YOU seek—>THEIR APPROVAL because you do not consider them to be a fool or unwise. Because they are trustworthy and reliable. It would be of great benefit to understand how they became reliable, trustworthy, and wise- by no longer fighting against the Truth, by listening to what Truth had to say, by LISTENING instead of TALKING. Then by admitting their faults, and then WORKING HARD to eliminate EACH ONE of them. One by one, one day at a time.
If you are NOT listening to God, don’t expect others to Trust You.
God is the embodiment of Truth- For He is Truth itself. Therefore, if a person doesn’t believe in God, denies His existence, or doesn’t ever make time for God- how and why would anyone take such a person seriously? Much of what they say, even if TRUE and has merit, will be taken with a grain of salt.
Those who make time for God- by not only listening to God but who also make every effort to follow and live by HIS INSTRUCTIONS, shall command the respect of others everywhere they go- without even saying a single word. In them LIVES Truth, although they are imperfect- they are perfectly supplemented by The Grace, Fortitude, and Favor of Almighty God.
