The Gifts of the Holy Spirit
1) Gifts of the Holy Spirit-
1 Corinthians Chapter 12 (entire chapter)
[verse 4-11] below
“To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice;someone else may be especially good at studying and teaching, both originate from the same Spirit. The Spirit gives special faith to another, and to another the power to heal the sick. He gives power for doing miracles to some and to other the power to prophesy and preach. The Spirit gives the ability to distinguish between truth and false, whether those claiming to be speaking messages from God are in fact doing so, or if they are evil spirit within them attempting to mislead others. To others the Spirit provides the ability to speak in languages not previously studied or. known to the speaker, and to another the ability to interpret languages heard although never studied or heard by the listener. No matter which ability is measures out to the person, it all originates from the same single source- The Holy Spirit.”
I remember reading about these special abilities and asking myself ‘I wonder which one I have? ‘as I presumed possessing one of these abilities was an automatic thing. I suppose I reasoned that we all had one the moment we were born and it was just matter of figuring out which one God blessed you with.
I remembering asking others even as a young adult, ‘which one do you think you have? ‘
Everyone I asked either replied with the one they thought they had, or they replied they did not know yet. It sounds like they made the same presumption I did.
The Gifts are called Gifts because they are just that- gifts. They are not inherited and instilled inside of us at the moment of birth.
That old ego can really make an ass out of us. Always presuming with a big fat capital I.
Let me share what I do know about the Gifts.
The abilities provided by the Holy Spirit are NOT so that one can place themselves high up on a pedestal and think more highly of himself, they are given to put GOD high up on a pedestal and to testify about His POWER, to Praise His name, to lead toward God, and to bring Glory to His kingdom!
Some may ask well I can speak tongues, now does that mean I can’t do miracles now?
Remember, you cannot speak tongues. You cannot do miracles. The one who is doing either is the Spirit of God who lives in you. We are vessels of the Living God.
I understand the question. Clearly.
You would like to know if more than one ability is provided to one person.
If you are asking this, ask yourself why? I bet ‘I’ is still in the equation.
I use to wonder the same thing. Now I see it does not matter. Does it
matter if you have three and I have one? Nope. Because neither of us can brag and exclaim it is our own doing to begin with.
I don’t know the answer but I imagine that there is no restriction on the ability provided to the individual or the type, nor restriction that indicates that because the spirit has spoken in tongues through you that that is the only ability you will ever experience.
We do not seek the Gifts of The Spirit, We seek God first, above all things. He ALONE is the Prize. Seek Him first, not the Gifts, not special abilities, not titles, just seek Him. Seek to learn about Him, to spend the day conversing with Him, reading His Word, know more about His love, His Justice, and His Will.
Be delighted in the Lord, in all that you do, then He will give you your heart’s desire.
The moments I have seen and witnessed the most extraordinary miracles, treasures, gifts and knowledge, were moments when my heart and soul were set on God above all else. I was not searching for this ability or that ability. I simply wanted to serve God, and help others.
